Microphone Input Level Tester

Preview microphone activity as local RMS and peak levels without recording, uploading or retaining the captured audio stream.

Ready. Your working data stays in this browser.

Why this tool is useful

Use this meter before a call or recording to confirm that the selected browser microphone receives speech and is not continuously clipping or silent.

How it works

After explicit microphone permission, Web Audio samples a short in-memory waveform and reports relative RMS and peak levels. No recording is created and every media track is stopped on clear or page exit.

Practical example

Speak at your normal distance for a few seconds. Compare the live percentage with the peak value and move the microphone farther away if repeated peaks approach 100%.

Validation

The test reports only browser-observable events and measurements; it does not invent hidden hardware health, temperature or manufacturer specifications.

Privacy boundary

Input and output remain in this tab. Copy and download happen through browser APIs without a server upload.

Result passport

Every run reports its tool mode, timestamp and input/output size so transformed data can be audited.
