Why this tool is useful
Use strict NYSIIS for record-linkage experiments that need a letter-only key and the documented six-character limit used by the original form.
Encode Latin-script names with the strict six-character New York State Identification and Intelligence System rules.
Ready. Your working data stays in this browser.
Use strict NYSIIS for record-linkage experiments that need a letter-only key and the documented six-character limit used by the original form.
The local encoder transforms special prefixes and suffixes, walks each remaining character through NYSIIS context rules, removes repeated output letters and performs the terminal S, AY and A cleanup.
Macintosh becomes MCANT and Knuth becomes NAT after the strict key is limited to its first six characters.
The calculation is deterministic and explains validation errors instead of silently changing invalid input.
Input and output remain in this tab. Copy and download happen through browser APIs without a server upload.
Every run reports its tool mode, timestamp and input/output size so transformed data can be audited.
